I have known for years that I am a very fortunate person. I am living in an unprecedented age of technology that allows me to make and keep contact with friends all over the world. I also know that on a day to day basis I tend to forget about how fortunate I truly am. Yesterday was one of those days.
Fridays are "my day". I work hard during the week and I sacrifice a bit in order to have this day off work. Thankfully my boss knows that I am actually a better worker for having this day to myself. Yesterday being Friday I began the day focused on myself at the nail salon having a manicure and pedicure. As I sat in the overstuffed leather chair having my legs massaged I turned to one of my other guilty pleasures, fashion magazines and in particular the latest edition of Glamour. After thumbing through countless pages of what I should and shouldn't be wearing for this upcoming season I came across this article http://us.glamour.com/news/articles/2007/08/reallifedrama This is a passionate article written by Eve Ensler of The Vagina Monologues fame. I can honestly say I was speechless upon finishing this article. When will we wake up to the inhumanity that is happening every day in Africa? I cannot stand by anymore and pretend I am not affected. I will now donate on a regular basis to http://www.vday.org/main.html. This must STOP NOW!

They're Here
There is nothing so wonderful as a home grown tomato! We tried something new this year and it seems to have worked beyond our wildest dreams! Always in the past we have planted the tomatoes in containers and have been lucky to get a half dozen total. This year we took out a rose bush from the back that had been damaged in the winter frost (yes, we do get frost here folks) and planted 6 plants in a much bigger area than usual. This is a haul from this morning's harvest and there will be more next week. Looks like I have plenty for all of my tomato obsessions like salsa, bruschetta, marinara sauce and then the greatest of all fresh sliced tomatoes along side perfectly grilled ears of corn. I'm going to stop complaining about the heat for awhile because without it I wouldn't have this awesome bounty!
