I have known for years that I am a very fortunate person. I am living in an unprecedented age of technology that allows me to make and keep contact with friends all over the world. I also know that on a day to day basis I tend to forget about how fortunate I truly am. Yesterday was one of those days.
Fridays are "my day". I work hard during the week and I sacrifice a bit in order to have this day off work. Thankfully my boss knows that I am actually a better worker for having this day to myself. Yesterday being Friday I began the day focused on myself at the nail salon having a manicure and pedicure. As I sat in the overstuffed leather chair having my legs massaged I turned to one of my other guilty pleasures, fashion magazines and in particular the latest edition of Glamour. After thumbing through countless pages of what I should and shouldn't be wearing for this upcoming season I came across this article http://us.glamour.com/news/articles/2007/08/reallifedrama This is a passionate article written by Eve Ensler of The Vagina Monologues fame. I can honestly say I was speechless upon finishing this article. When will we wake up to the inhumanity that is happening every day in Africa? I cannot stand by anymore and pretend I am not affected. I will now donate on a regular basis to http://www.vday.org/main.html. This must STOP NOW!

Gaye- thaank you so much for this article. I have been fortunate enough to been given the gift of 2 young men who are interested i the injustices in Africa. They gave up their xmas last year to donate to dafur. It is something we talk about often here. I am happy to see that someone else is getting just as angry as i am.
You go gaye Us women all need to stick together. it is the ONLY way things will get fixed the right way!!!!!
Thanks for raising awareness, Gaye.
It truly is tragic the number of outrages that are committed against women across the world.
It does, indeed, put us in the ranks of the truly fortunate.
I applaud you!
