I posted this note at the House a week or so ago when things starting getting crazy in the market. I have kept it on my desk because lately it has given me a reason to smile at a time when as far as work goes has been difficult. The Senate has passed the credit/banking bailout bill and yet the market still is tanking (down 235 points on the Dow). Why do I continue to watch? People are scared. I get it. More jobs will be lost. Money will get tighter but I have to ask – are we really surprised? We as a nation have been spending like there is no tomorrow. Well, guess what folks – tomorrow has arrived! This is going to be felt in every household in the country. We are going to be paying for this for years to come. I have faith in the markets and the free enterprise system. Those who save and plan will reap the benefits. All those times I moaned about not taking a vacation because we didn’t have the money. I’m thankful Mark and I had the discipline to say “no”. I’m thankful we both have jobs that currently pay us well and provide an adequate life for us. So many people don’t have that. I am so sad for what is to come for our nation. Please God, let us as a nation learn our lesson this time.

well said. I honestly have no money in the stock market. I will be affect slightly. I can honestly say we can afford to go on vacation even when times are tough. I hope people will realize they are not entitled to everything. To me that is the scary part. I hope people will realize that hardwork is nothing to be ashamed of. I can say I am extremely glad my DH is in law enforcement though.
Hope things calm down some for you soon.
Like Chiara I hope things calm down for you. Like G I am an essential government employee so I don't worry much but Roger does. These are scary times, especially with a kid in college but Roger and I are not the kind that buy whatever we want whenever we want. There are people very close to me who are like that and I see them getting themselves into some real trouble. Time to just be very careful about your spending and put the credit cards away
I am just glad that we are not planning on retiring in the near future. Almost all of our retirement fund is in the stock market. I guess our biweekly investment will be buying lots of shares now.
I hope things calm down for you soon, Gaye. I can't imagine the stress you are under. Luckily, my dh is governmental employee, as well. So as long as they are willing to continue paying the federal employees, we are fine.
I hope things are better these days Gaye, though from reading (the little I do) about it today, sounds like it'll be a rough road ahead.
